Saturday on a Wednesday

I don't know why we even call them weekends anymore.  So many people work Saturdays and Sundays that they really don't qualify for "weekend" status but are more like "midweeks" or even worse "Mondays".  Back in college when I was working overnights for the evil empire 'Wal-Mart' I began to rename the different days of the week to make myself feel better.  There is nothing worse than saying "Yay!  It's Friday, ohhh, darn I have to work tomorrow."  I started moving my "Fridays" around in the week.  If I had Wednesday and Thursday off for example I would celebrate Tuesday as my "Friday."  Now that I am the manager of a retail auto parts store I get the great honor of having two "Fridays" almost everyweek.  This happens for two reasons; 1. I work retail, therefore I work most weekends, and 2. I am the manager so I rarely have two days off in a row.

This week Travis and I did manage to have a day off together though so we celebrated our "Saturday" on Wednesday.  We were lucky enough that the kids let us sleep in a little bit but I was unfortunate enough to wake up with a massive headache.  After we got some food in everyone we split up and the noisy boys went out to the garage to clean it up while the girls stayed in the house for some much needed cuddle and knitting time.
I was drawn outside to take pictures when I looked up from my knitting and saw an unusual sight out our front window.  Travis had rigged a new "stroller" for Boo and they had come around the house from the back to get something from the Jeep.  I couldn't quite make out what Boo was riding on so I got up to go see, headache and all, what those two were up to.  It turns out they had been moving some heavy stuff in the garage with the dolly.  Boo decided he was heavy too so Travis strapped him to the dolly with a bungee cord then proceeded to wheel him around.  You gotta love it when your kids actually like being tied up.
After a few minutes outside with my boys I went back in for more cuddle time with Peanut.  I even managed to knock my headache back enough to do some knitting.  I made some good headway on a very cute pair of footie overalls I am currently working on.  I am a bit concerned they will be too small for Peanut by the time I get them done.  It's not that they are taking overly long to knit but she is getting so big so fast and the pattern is only for 3-6months.  I went up a needle size like the pattern recommended but still think they will be too small.  Luckily I know several people at work who are starting families of their own and I am making them in a lovely yellow yarn good for either a girl or a boy.  I really enjoyed my knitting time with Peanut.  I am really going to miss the joint knitting/cuddle time when she gets older and is too busy to sit with mom.

While Peanut and I were doing our thing inside, Travis and Boo continued tearing it up in the garage.  I kept getting picture messages from dad showing thing after thing Boo was getting into.  They may not have gotten much cleaning done but it sure looks like they had fun.  I have the dirty clothes to prove it.  I am so glad we were able to find Boo his own garage jacket so he can be warm and toasty and still get dirty.
These are the kind of Saturdays I treasure.  We really didn't do anything special but we were together and with our children.  So many of my days off are overloaded with activities either because I feel guilty for not spending enough time with my kids or are so jam packed full of chores and errands I am in need of another day off just to recover.  Days like this past Wednesday are not necessarily the most memorable but are sometimes the most special.  Time with my kids and the man I love, doesn't get much better than that.
