We have a friend of the family who has made the comment, "babies only hold x volume". This means there is only so much room in thier little bodies, so what goes in must come out to make room for more to go in. Peanut reminded me today how true that statement really is.
Grandma, Nana, the kids, and I were out shopping for Boo because nothing in his closet fits him. I don't know what I would have done without the extra help shopping. I am still trying to get used to herding a toddler while holding an infant. This proves to be even more difficult in a store with no shopping carts and very narrow aisles, full of harried moms and children who just wnat to go play in the toy section. After the adventure of the much crowded clothing store we piled in the van to grab a bite to eat and hopefully avert a hunger induced toddler melt-down. While driving some truly disturbing sounds began to eminate from Peanut. There was no way noises that loud could come from my darling little four week old angel and be just gas.
We pulled into the parking lot and decided to change both kids butts in the van knowing the restaurant has no changing table in the restroom. Boo was easy, Grandma got him taken care of in the back seat but when I pulled Peanut out of her car seat I felt something wet and knew I was in for more of a challenge. Thank goodness for the minivan I swore I would never own. I opened up the back, made a flat spot with the stow-n-go seats and prepared myself for the horror to come. Grandma and Boo were armed with the baby wipes, while Nana stood next to me holding the diaper bag and stared in horror as I began to unwrap the soggy package.
I know Boo isn't that old but I guess the memory is a funny thing because I had forgotten how bad an infant blow-out can be. When I pulled down her pants I was also stunned; I did not know that color of orange could come out of a human being. Without the pants there to help contain the mess the race was on. I barely got her socks off before the goo had run down her leg to her foot. I don't know how many wipes we went through but I am very glad Grandma and my little helper were there to hand them out or we may have had to make an extra trip to get the van detailed. As it was we basically had to detail the baby. I think I had to wipe down almost every inch of her. Onsies are great but after a blow-out it is very difficult to get them off without spreading the mess. We got her cleaned up and dressed then went in to eat. The "x volume" theory was proved yet again; once in the restaurant she let me know she was starving and proceeded to eat just as good as her big brother.
